Ryle and Drukore offer their 2 cents.
I caught up with Ryle and Drukore on this final night at Studio B, and they gave their thoughts on the closure, their goals and the future of Next Level.
Welcome!
Here we go, getting started with an Official Hardscience Blog!
Here is a little history about what Hardscience is, and where we are going with this.
In the Summer of 2004 Dave Science, Ryan Alexander and Ian K, all DJ's and MC's in the local dance scene, decided that it was time for them to contribute something. I had been working on some productions for a while at that point, and Dave and Ryan had as well. We wrote a couple of tracks, and decided to release them digitally, as opposed to pressing vinyl. Our thinking was that it would be cheaper for us, therefore cheaper for the DJ to buy our music.
After our initial releases in May 2005, we have worked hard to be putting out solid Hard Dance and Hardcore/Freeform. This past Summer Dave decided that he wanted to go on and persue other interests, and left Hardscience Recordings in the hands of Ryan Alexander and myself.
It is kind of interesting that the same day we are getting started with Blogs and podcasting, is the same night that the local venue "Studio B/FX" is closing its doors for the last time. Many of us got our start there, and it was at this space that I met so many of the great performers in this city. So tonight I will be posting from the venue, talking to those that have been involved with the scene and that location in particular, getting their thoughts on what the venue's closure means for Seattle Dance Culture.
This blog is where we will be interviewing those involved with the scene. Hopefully we will be bringing you some exclusive mixes by local dj's as well. And of course we will be giving you the latest info on Hardscience Recordings, including upcoming events that we'll be playing at, and updates on new releases.
