Sunday, March 19, 2006Monday, March 13, 2006Here is a sample of something new I've been working on. Let me know what you all think! This is one of the tracks I am trying to complete before Robbie Long gets to town, I want to have a cd of tracks for him! -Ian K. Sunday, March 12, 2006It's amazing how things all come together from time to time. After getting back from LA I was suprised and happy to find out that Simon Apex will be coming back to the States in May! For those that do not know, Simon was responsible for Subsonic Underground records, the first stateside-based hardcore label. Along with a great record shop and putting on incredible events, Simon and Angela were in many ways responsible for me getting my break into the scene. He was the first person to ever get me (and DJ Dummy) booked out of state, and was the person responsible for me getting into production. Just from a couple of days watching him work in his studio, I picked up all sorts of info on how to write dance music. Since his move to the UK he has been very helpful in showing me how I can improve my music, and always supportive of my endeavors into production. The news of his upcoming relocation back to the states, I am hopeful that I will be able to visit him on a regular basis to work in his studio and learn all I can from him. In addition to this great news, Robbie Long will be visiting Seattle this weekend and I am booked to MC for him. Robbie is one of the great hardcore supporters and always brings an amazing set! My plan is to have some stuff to show Robbie, to at least maybe get some pointers or opinions on my productions. In any case it'll be a fun weekend and as usual I am hoping to have some good video and photos up after the party. Monday, March 06, 2006So I am finally back from LA and boy did I have a trip! My flight in was great, had a whole row to myself and I was able to just lean back and relax. Got in on time and caught the shuttle to my hotel, got checked in and chilled out. Got in touch with some people and got my ride to the gig all sorted, then I got to watch the Law and Order marathon on TV. As boring as it might sound to spend my time in LA sitting my hotel room, hoestly I was needing it! The last couple of weeks were pretty stressful In any case the party was awesome, everyone I met was very nice, and Tony C is hilarious, as are Kiddo and Josh! Unfortunately the police decided that the event needed to end early because of something that happened across the street. I was a bit bummed what what are you going to do eh? The promoters were awesome and very helpful, and I hope that I can come back again sometime soon! Sunday, March 05, 2006Saturday, March 04, 2006Well I am here in LA, and I gotta say that free Wi-Fi is the best thing ever! Got in touch with some folks down here and I'll be heading out for some food and a drink shortly. LA is such an interesting place, when I was checking in to my hotel, I ended up having a 20 minute conversation with the guy at the check in desk about throwing parties and how I write music on a computer and ended up giving him a promo CD. LA is the one palce where nearly EVERYONE is involved in something other than what they do for a living. It makes meeting people very interesting, there are a lot of cool people here trying to get into the entertainment "biz", and you never know if the waiter who brought you your coffee also wrote that episode of Law and Order that you loved. Looking out my window right now I can see $1,000,000 homes in the hills and right across the street there's rows and rows of identical apartment complexes. LA can seem strange, but everyone I meet here is pretty cool and friendly. I just talked with Channel Surfer and he's planning on coming out tonight, so that will be awesome. Just ran through most of the PA again here in lovely room 330, so things are set for tonight, I'll have a review of the party and photos up tomorrow! Friday, March 03, 2006Here we are the 3rd of March and my week of stress is reaching its apex today and tomorrow. I keep saying this is "The last time I do music at a friends wedding" but I know it won't be. So I got that tonight, then up early tomorrow, go up to my dad's to work on my car for a bit (failed emissions again) then head to the airport to catch my 12:30 flight to LAX. Tomorrow should be awesome, I've been chatting with one of the promoters on AIM quite a bit and things are going well, presales are good and they are expecting a good crowd. I'm happy to have Kiddo playing before me, he's pretty badass and a funny guy. As for the new PA set, tried it out last night at the Spot, and it went really well. All the new stuff sounds great, and is kind of making me want to go back and re-work some of the old stuff. In any case, I gotta get to work, so the next time I'm posting I should have some pics and hopefully some video for you! |
