Donation and Memorial Link

Here is a link to the chickenhedlives.org website, a memorial site for the 6 who died Saturday morning. It is so named because the house was home to Jeremy Martin, AKA Jeremy Chickenhed, who along with his compatriots would engage in fun like dressing up like a clowns and going to a party!

If you knew any of the victims you can leave a message and there is a link to donate funds for the victims.

You may have also noticed the rotating banner on the upper right hand side of the site. This is a link to the Chickenhed site, which you can add to your website/blog/MySpace account easily. Visit cdcstudios.com for code and instructions. Many thanks to Chris at cdcstudios for putting it all together. Please help out by reposting links to the donation site. The local dance community is reeling in the wake of these killings and the support we have been receiving from all over has helped us a great deal. Thank you.

Shootings in Seattle

As many of you may have heard, this past Sat the 25th at 7 AM 6 young people were killed at an afterparty. One of those that died, Chris aka Deacon808, hit me the hardest. He was a young DJ and producer, into breakcore and other hard dance music. We used to chat online about music and events, artists we both liked. When I heard the rumors that he was one of the 6, I kept hoping it was unfounded, then later that night it was confirmed by his mother that Chris had passed away.

Sunday I went to the house where it all took place, and walking up the street you could still see "NOW" spraypainted on the sidewalk. Many friends of those that died were there, and the neighborhood came and supported them. Someone brought blankets ebcause it was cold out. Another made hot chocolate and was giving to the mourners. This is a community that has suffered such a loss, yet we are all coming together to support one another.

On NWTekno there was a check in safe thread, a fund has been setup to help the families and people are gathering both at the house and at a local park to share their grief and celebrate those that were lost.

Of course there is a lot of media attention on this, and after the initial fear that it would be a "blame the rave" spin, most news outlets (with the exception of FOX and local Shock Jocks on the Radio) have made the distinction that this horrific event was not related to the fully legal dance that took place earlier in the night. I personally care less about how this will affect the "scene" right now, I'm a bit more concerned with helping those affected by these shootings.

In the next day we will be posting a link where you can donate money to the families. Until then support those around you and remember those that have been lost. This affects us all.

Wrapping up the week!

Last night Ryan and I played at the Spot for Thursday Night Hookups courtesy of Check6 Productions. It was a good chance to try some new things. Ryan threw down a solid set of banging Hard Dance. While he was playing Wheelz and I were chatting in the back about how we've been seeing Ryan spin since the old days. Good to see him starting to play out more, hopefully the very positive reaction to his CD will help him there.

I ran through the basic set I'll be doing in LA tomorrow, and it went very smooth. I LOVE my new controller! That's all for now, I'll be back on Monday!

So last night was just wonderful. The 2nd night of Podcast Hotel featured DJ's spinning some amazing sets, from Tribal House, to Breaks, House and Hard Dance. Many thanks to Jacob London, +Russ and especially Hardscience co-owner Ryan Alexander. It was great to see people who might not have heard undergound dance music grooving and checking out what the DJ's had to offer.

Many thanks to Jeff the sound guy, Alex for putting it on, Joe Klein for the wicked intros and all the bloggers who will hopefully be posting about the night shortly.
